We're back with another edition of vintage pack breaks. Today, we open and look at the series that started Joe Montana's career, the 1981 Topps Football set. This set feature a simple design featuring NFL players in various settings with inserts featuring in game action photos. These Super Action subsets can be found randomly throughout Wax, Cello, Rack and Grocery packs.

The Players

Along with the highly sought after Joe Montana rookie card, other rookies that can be found include:

  • Art Monk
  • Theotis Brown
  • Billy Sims
  • Kellen Winslow
  • Ron Springs

While high graded Montana cards sell for eye-watering prices, Art Monk, Kellen Winslow and other rookie cards in great condition still see a premium price in most markets. Along with these rookies, many stars are present and have also commanded higher prices in great, and not so great condition. Walter Payton cards in this set, and nearly all other early career sets of his see a great return on price. Other notable veteran and star cards in the set include:

  • Steve DeBerg
  • Dwight Clark
  • Donnie Shell
  • Ed "Too Tall" Jones
  • Leonard Thompson
  • Franco Harris
  • Wes Chandler

As you can see by the above lists and the enclosed checklist, this set definitely has sought after cards that most collectors love. In this episode, we're on our hunt for Montana rookies and other stars and we'll bring you more 1981 breaks until we find one. We hope you get a great idea on what these cards look like, what to expect if you pick up these types of packs and we have another video coming up where we open some wax packs. We hope you enjoy the video!
